The Anteaters (3-2) continue their Sanford Pentagon (non-) Showcase today against the Horizon League’s Milwaukee Panthers (1-3). The Panthers were picked dead last in a conference roughly equivalent to the Big West, and true to form, they have yet to win a DI game in 2016-2017.

History: None. This is a match-up that will likely never be replicated again. Pretty sure the South Dakotans aren’t clamoring to watch a team from Orange County take on a team from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

What to Expect: Coming off of a season sweep against South Dakota State, UCI should be gaining confidence and win reasonably easily. Redshirt sophomore Brock Stull is Milwaukee’s leading scorer and rebounder, but the 6’4 guard shouldn’t be anything UCI hasn’t seen before. Senior Cody Wichmann is a threat from outside, but a rather one-dimensional player. Starting point guard August Haas is a freshman from Denmark — should be interesting to see how UCI’s young point guards match up.

New Coach in Town: Milwaukee has a first-year coach in LaVall Jordan. Jordan was a very good guard for Butler from 1998-2001, and also served as an assistant coach there during one of their Sweet 16 runs. Most recently, Jordan was an assistant at Michigan, where he helped coach numerous players that went on to the NBA. Seems like a good hire for the long run, but I just don’t think Milwaukee has the guns to keep up with UCI this year.
