UCI overcame a sluggish first 35 minutes of play to pull things together in time to record a gutty 68-61 win over UC Davis. Travis Souza continued to show his value to this team, nailing a huge go-ahead 3-pointer late in the game, while Chris McNealy verified his status as Aggie-killer, stepping up to fill the void of a somewhat ineffective Derrick Flowers. Adam Folker continued his strong play as well, providing an essential 11 points and eight rebounds. He is the one post player that UCI has been able to depend on more often than not.
In other news, Mark Roberts revealed during halftime yesterday that Will Davis II actually set the UCI single-game record for blocks in a game with seven against Seattle last week. The original box score had Davis down for five, but apparently coaches looking back at the game tape determined that (as Roberts had suggested earlier) the freshman big man actually had two more than first recorded, thus breaking the record of six set by Jeff Von Lutzow against Bradley, way back on 12/1/90. Congrats to Will!
