In somewhat of a head scratcher, ESPN3 is broadcasting tonight’s women’s basketball game against UC Riverside.
Apparently the Hawaiian Tourism Authority has something to do with this, in anticipation of them joining the Big West… we’ll take it.
The broadcasters just kindly welcomed us to the “University of Irvine” and the “historic” Bren Center. Gotta love the guest commentators. McCalister-Klintsone-Belen-Onomoguho-Marshall to start.
Update 9:00pm: UCI fell in a nail-biter of a game to the suddenly resurgent Lady Highlanders (4-16), who were powered by TreShonti Nottingham’s star night. A disappointing upset for UCI, but one that isn’t as bad as the two records and places in the Big West would suggest. UCR was coming off of a four point win against Fullerton, a team that UCI had just beaten by five.
In my opinion, Molly Goodenbour has done a great job with this team that has lost sophomore Jazmyne White for the season. They couldn’t quite pull out the win today, but still showed off the ability to slash to the basket and draw fouls even without last year’s star Mikah Maly-Karros. Tonight, Nottingham had the extra bit of will that made the difference down the stretch.
Short on time today, but more thoughts on women’s basketball and an explanation for the lack of coverage Zotcubed has given them to come.
